Wine merchant van Boort is housed in the old Watergate. The only remaining city gate of Zaltbommel, which dates from the 14th century. The grandfather of current owner Luuc van Boort purchased the building in 1905. Grandmother began a liquor store: Wine and liquors were the main products. In 1926 with the acquisition of Van de Garde (wine merchant since 1797), an additional piece of wine history was incorporated including contacts with some excellent French vineyards. From the early years van Boort was acting as a private wine importer. The wine arrived in barrels and was bottled on the spot. And Luuc van Boort still is importer of wines.
