Our 100% off-grid gin distillery is nestled in the beautiful Breede Valley in the Western Cape, South Africa. Many of the botanicals used in our gins are foraged from the mountains surrounding the distillery and are endemic to the Cape. In addition to that, the blueberries used in our Medella Gin are grown on the farm. Our water source is fresh from the mountain. We have three different gins in our stable : Monks Mysterium - This gin focuses on what nature has to give. Made using the unique fynbos from the Western Cape, it also includes Sceletium, a range of citrus fruits and the traditional botanicals of Juniper berries, Coriander, Orris root and Angelica root. On the nose, sweet melon and caramel aromas start the journey, leading to undertones of orange peel and herbal garrique – all frames by the juniper and angelica components. The sweetness follows onto the palate on entry with a juicy mouthful that becomes direr on the finish with a taste profile of juniper, buchu and citrus. Monks Medella - (Blueberry infused) Light and crisp on the nose, a whimsical gin that will suit all palates. Juniper forward London Dry, with spicy top notes of African Ginger which enhances the full bodied blueberry flavour. Monks Mary Jane - a juniper forward London Dry. Due to the nature of the terpene profiles in Cannabis Sativa, Limonene in particular, her aromatic nature is citrus dominant. The added notes of star anise and cardamom perfectly balance this gin and the Renosterbos and Slangbos add a full bodied botanical flavour.
