Description

Production area: Vigna degli Angeli, on the slopes of Monte Conero in Rosso Conero DOC area.

Grape variety: Montepulciano 100%

Vineyard: Multiclonal plant of 4650 plants per hectare, bred with pruned-spur cordon-trained system over a calcareous-clay soil, typical of Monte Conero at 350 m above sea level, exposed to south and about 2000 m from the sea.

Climate: Cold and sunny winter, snow-free, fairly rainy. Spring cold and rightly rainy until May, period of flowering, then it rained often and it was hot up to all the month of July. This condition made sure that the vegetation developed very much and could nourish the grapes very well during their development; finally the good veraison made sure  that there was a good production.

In August it was often very hot with long periods with a temperature over 40° and without raining, as well as September; grapes maturation has stopped and it became the dehydration in the thinned part; we have to harvest at least 20 days in advance, compared with a normal period of harvesting. The level of sugar is very high, 22/24 Babo degree; this condition si due more to the dehydration than the transformation of sugar by the plant. A positive thing: thanks to the almost total absence of humidity it was not necessary treatment during August and September. The harvest ended on 19th October; the last harvested grape was the best with 21 Baboo degree and a well ripe tannin, thanks to the incoming cold and some light rain.

Winemaking: Grapes were hand harvested and put in chestes on 14th September. After a careful selection, they are pressed and destemmed, then they fermented for five days with continuous pumping over to extract from the anthocyanins and tannins to give the wine its color and structure; then the wine is separated from the peels and racked in vitrified cement tanks; it stayed here 2/3 days to help lees decanting before the transfer in barrique; the malolactic fermentation took place in barriques in June of the following year and after another passage to eliminate the waste, wine started its maturation in barrique for a further 7 months until June 2013, when it was put again in vitrified cement tanks and bottled in October 2014. For at least other 12 months the wine rests in the bottle in suitable places before being sold.

About this company

My name is Alessio Petito, I have created Apebeverage two years ago; I\'m here to propose the small but fantastic farms that i directly represent, they all need a partner who can help them to develop their business outside Italy. The most of the farms come from Lazio, the Region of Rome, where wine has been produced for thousands of years, this a blessed terrain to produce high quality wine. Lazio is really becoming a cult area for producing wine. Rome has even one of the eleven trappist beer in the world, Birra Tre Fontane, i would really like you to taste this beer!! I also represent two incredible farms from Tuscany: Padelletti 1571, one of the most ancient Brunello producers, easely considered among the best 5 in Montalcino, and Quercia Grossa, natual wine farmer who produce amazing wines with with about 0,1 of sulphur. Very close to Tuscany, on the opposite side of central Italy there are Marche, where PiantateLunghe produces an outstanding Rosso Conero Riserva. Moving to the south of Italy i represent a very good winery from Sicily, Barone Sergio, precisely from Pachino, inside the Eloro DOC, the traditional area of Nero d\'Avola, but they are also able to produce a structured and fragant Grillo, and an unbelivable Passito. In Calabria, just a little bit further north, i propose Cantine Viola and their delicious Moscato di Saracena; they also produce beer, the name of the brewery is DeAlchemia, distinguishable thanks to their packaging. The last farmer i wonna talk about is Casalu wine, a fresh and performing Amarone producer, from Verona, in the traditional area of Valpolicella.
