Tanguyu Tobalá is a young, artisanal mezcal distilled from wild Tobalá agave, one of Oaxaca’s most prized and aromatic varieties. Harvested in the highlands of San Luis del Río and bottled at 43% ABV, it reflects a refined and elegant take on traditional mezcal.
The aroma is delicate yet expressive, with sweet notes of apricot, roasted almonds, and a gentle thread of smoke. On the palate, it reveals layers of sweet cooked maguey, toasted almond, and subtle chocolate. A rich, meaty texture is balanced by a bright, clean acidity on the finish.

About this company
In the locality of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, one of its 13 neighborhoods, is the Vixhana neighborhood considered a neighborhood of clay art artisans, where these dolls or clay toys and household utensils are made, currently only one person is dedicated to this trade and its production has spread to other municipalities of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. These clay dolls called Tanguyu were given as gifts to girls in the month of December, a custom that began in New Spain Mexico and was still carried out in the 1930s. The origin of this tradition comes from pre-Hispanic times, since at the end of the 365-day cycle, our ancestors renewed the images of our tutelary Gods in the particular altar, and in order not to forget this pagan tradition, they hid it as a gift for their children. In addition to the above, the tradition continues in its uses and customs in Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, since in its traditional festivals women and men dance the Son de Tanguyu .
