Description
Crafted in the heart of San Luis del Río, Tanguyu Sierra Negra is a young, artisanal mezcal that captures the vibrant character of its rare agave variety. Distilled at 43% ABV, this expression showcases the bold yet elegant personality of Sierra Negra maguey, cultivated and harvested with deep respect for Oaxacan tradition.
On the nose, it offers a bright and fresh bouquet—herbal and vegetal with sweet notes of cooked maguey and subtle smoke. The palate reveals a refined minerality, layered with red fruit accents like cherry, and finishes with a surprising lactic note reminiscent of butter, adding a creamy, lingering texture.
Tanguyu Sierra Negra is a complex and expressive mezcal—fresh, earthy, and beautifully balanced, perfect for those seeking a unique and elevated sipping experience.

About this company
In the locality of Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, Oaxaca, one of its 13 neighborhoods, is the Vixhana neighborhood considered a neighborhood of clay art artisans, where these dolls or clay toys and household utensils are made, currently only one person is dedicated to this trade and its production has spread to other municipalities of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. These clay dolls called Tanguyu were given as gifts to girls in the month of December, a custom that began in New Spain Mexico and was still carried out in the 1930s. The origin of this tradition comes from pre-Hispanic times, since at the end of the 365-day cycle, our ancestors renewed the images of our tutelary Gods in the particular altar, and in order not to forget this pagan tradition, they hid it as a gift for their children. In addition to the above, the tradition continues in its uses and customs in Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, since in its traditional festivals women and men dance the Son de Tanguyu .
