Wellington Brewery is welcoming a new year-round addition to their award-winning craft beer lineup. After years of working to develop a new IPA recipe, Wellington will be launching their new Upside IPA at retail and on tap this week.
Inspired by juicy hop-forward East Coast IPA’s, Upside IPA is an unfiltered India Pale Ale that is exploding with grapefruit, peach, and tropical hop flavours. Upside uses Vermont ale yeast and has an intricately crafted malt profile which includes oats and flaked wheat, giving the beer a hazy appearance and a rounded, smooth mouthfeel. Bursting with fresh citrus flavours this IPA is on the up and up.
The addition of a new IPA to Wellington’s core brand lineup has been a long time coming. As one of Canada’s original craft brewers, Wellington has become known for their award-winning malt-forward English style ales. Over the past five years, the brewery has expanded their brand offerings while releasing countless different IPA recipes as part of their small-batch Welly One-Off Series.
“We’ve been brewing pilot batches non-stop over the past year, searching for a balance of late addition hops that compliment the oats and wheat in this malt bill. As an IPA lover, I knew we had to get this right and I think we did with this one” said Wellington brewmaster Marvin Dyck.
It’s been a year of exciting changes at Wellington as the brewery has been expanded to include a brand new 40 HL NSI brewhouse and a world class Krones packaging line. Recently the brewery announced some major changes to their brand offerings including the launch of their new Helles Lager. The addition of Upside IPA rounds out the year-round lineup from Wellington, striking a balance of traditional malt-forward styles alongside a new lager and hop focused offerings.
Upside IPA will be available in 473 mL tall cans at LCBO and Beer Store locations across Ontario for $3.25. It will also be available on tap at bars and restaurants across Ontario in the coming weeks. Upside IPA officially launches at the brewery retail store onFriday June 16th, 2017, with Beer Store and LCBO availability to follow.
