VINTAGE NOTES
The 2019 growing season began with heavy rains and late moisture that organically increased cover crops and enriched the soil with nutrients. The long, mild summer saw very few extreme heat events, and few extended foggy mornings which set the stage for excellent quality wines. The extended mild finish to the season provided for extended hang time that further increased flavors and preserved freshness in the fruit helping produce a memorable vintage
WINEMAKING NOTES
Our 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a beautiful expression of Napa's finest vineyards. With the majority of the blend being sourced from vineyards in the iconic Oakville sub-appellation and the remainder from vineyards in the Oak Knoll District the wine exhibits a well balanced and yet powerful flavor profile and structure. Fruit was picked in the cool of the morning at 4 a.m. followed by a gentle destemming of the clusters and light crush. A four day cold soak was followed by a 31 day fermentation. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 20 months.
TASTING NOTES
"Pronounced cassis, mint aromas with toast and vanilla. Lovely concentration and chocolate texture with freshness to the black plum fruit. Succulent tannins, juicy finish" (Decanter). "Fruit forward nose, driven by black plum, black cherry, blackberry flavors, and notes of cedar and vanilla. Fruity on the palate with some hints of oak" (Sommeliers Choice). This wine opens with aromas of blueberry and black currant leading to cocoa, lavender and cigar box. Deep and beautifully structured, it has elegant, lengthy tannins matched by ideal balance. Dark and opaque, the concentrated flavors bring forward notes of boysenberry, black currant and plum with dark spices and a seamless, smooth finish.
