Description

Reckless Love is a 2012 California Red Wine Blend. It is 50% Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Paso Robles Syrah. This is a traditional new world style California cocktail wine. It is medium bodied with a velvety mouth feel followed by the bright red fruit of cherries and raspberries. We wanted to make wine we can drink every day, so we cut the tannins from the Cabernet by blending in a central coast syrah. The Syrah gives this wine a white pepper and vanilla characteristic right as the bottle opens, while the Cabernet keeps a backbone of caramel, oak, and dark vineyard soil. The Bottle: We used the strongest American-made glass we could find, and then printed directly on the bottle with Glow-in-the-dark ink. Why? Because how else can you find a bottle when the lights are on? As a prank, our Winemaker chip drew very professional sketches of the team, and then put their names and cell phone numbers on every single cork. Chip did not tell anyone about it until after we bottled the wine. Now we get tons of calls from happy drinkers every day :) Winemaking: The CABERNET: • Picked at 25 Brix • Cold soaked for 7 days • Fermentation lasted 10 days • No extended maceration HAHAHA yeah right! We did a 32-day extended maceration in a closed top tank. • Gently pressed with a basket press • Racked off its lees after stirring it in barrel for 12 months, stored in barrel, and every month topped off when needed with same wine. • Barrel aged for a total of 18 months in 15% ne w Demptos Bordeaux barrels from the Allier forest. • Each full moon, the winemakers released a dozen puppies into the winery for a sleepover to have their puppy laughter make the wine happy. The SYRAH: • Picked at 28 Brix • Cold soaked for 8 days • Fermentation lasted 11 days • No extended maceration • Gently pressed with a basket press • Racked off its lees after 10 months, stored in barrel and every month topped off when needed with same wine. • Barrel aged for a total of 12 months in 15% ne w Demptos Burgundy barrels from the Nevers forest.
