Our classic Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma county was grown in the Reichel Vineyard, a spectacular high elevation vineyard on Pine Mountain in Cloverdale that sits at an elevation of 2,200-2,500 ft. The elevated vineyard has slightly cooler days than the valley floor and much cooler evenings due to the influence of the Pacific Ocean. This provides a longer growing season, which allows for slower maturity and thus more intensity of flavors in the grapes. On the palate, the rich mouth-coating expression of fruit and dark chocolate mixed with the firm integrated tannins leads to a long, velvety finish. This wine has been barrel aged in french oak for 18 months. It contains 10% Petite Verdot and 4% Malbec to add color, spice, and structure. The blended additions of Petite Verdot added color and a soft forward fruit flavor, which helped to mellow the very big tannic Cabernet. The 4% of 2008 Malbec added a critical oak aged wine component and depth of fruit. This dry and earthy wine is perfect to enjoy now or cellar for an important occasion in the years to come.
