Description
Castel de Fornos bears the name of our first vineyard located on a hillside between Cambados and Ribadumia in a hamlet called Fornos.
Our forebears called this dry and stony area “Castel” which proved optimal for growing Albariño. The name “Castel de Fornos” was penned in tribute to these early beginnings.
Tasting notes: White and clear with a colour of hay and a glint of green, Castel de Fornos is a high intensity wine with a torrent of complex aromas. First come the floral hints (gardenia, rose, orange blossom), then the fruit (apricot, orange peel, honey-like) with a background of herbs (laurel, anise, mint) with a slaty finish due to the proximity to the Atlantic Ocean in Galicia, Spain.

About this company
At the westernmost end of the Celtic corridor of the Atlantic,, in Galicia, José Chaves Chaves founded in 1955 the CHAVES winery, with the same name for his wines. Continuity was ensured from father to son and the generational handover drove the dream forward, bringing strength and force to an increasingly stimulating and dynamic project. In 1986, our winery was one of the first to market wines under the “Vinos de la tierra” designation, guaranteeing the origin of the Albariño grape variety from the Salnés Valley. After this experience, we actively assisted on the creation of the recognised Appellation of Origin Rías Baixas and are proud to be the second winery in the order of registration.
