Description

In its Light golden colour with straw tinge, Msenangu is influenced by the rendition of a Swahili love ballad’s coastal rhythms from my new album, KenSoul, The Lotus Chapter, ready to transport you from Stellenbosch all through to the Swahili coast. Hints of tropical citrus aromas, pear drop sweetness and a hint of honeysuckle, finishing on the nose set this Chenin Blanc/Chardonnay 2017 Blend as a rare, yet easy every-day wine. The grapes are selected parcels throughout the Western Cape and the wine is crafted by Hendrik Snyman.

Technical details:

  • Varietal: 71% Chenin Blanc, 29% Chardonnay
  • Wine of Origin: Western Cape
  • Appellation: Cape Mosaic Chenin Blanc - Chardonnay Vintage: 2017
  • Profile: Dry
  • Alcohol: 13%
  • Volume: 750ml
  • pH: 3.4
  • TA:5.3
  • Rs: 1.8

Tasting note: An explosion of ripe tropical fruit flavours on the pallet. The natural fermentation gives it a layered fruit dimension that ends in a lusciously juicy finish that is very well integrated and balanced with a bright acidity supported by the subtle use of wood

Food suggestion: This wine can stand up to spicy foods & goes well with curries.

In the vinetard: Grapes were sourced from a cross section of regions selected for optimal expression of each varietal. Vineyard tactics included pruning to two-bud spurs, shoot removal, bunch thinning and canopy management to best ripeness and quality.

The harvest: Each block of grapes was intensely monitored to determine optimum ripeness and so ensuring a wine with a fresh and fruity character unique to both varietals.

In the cellar: The grapes were crushed then pressed, and the juice cold settled for two days. Fermentation took place at 14° - 16° C. Following fermentation, the varieties were blended allowing the varietal character of each one to enhance the complexity and depth of the blend. The wine was left on the fine lees for complexity and integration.
