Description

This red wine, the starting point of our production, is created from vineyards located on the ascent of the “Collada”, on deep soil composed of sand, clay and silt (130 meters above sea level). Grape varieties in this case are Croatina and Merlot, with forms of farming spurred Cordon and Guyot. With fruity and floral flavors this wine is characterized by a typical herbaceous flavor aroma, due to the contribution made by Croatina. It has a particularly relevant freshness, which tends to fully express the tannin content of the grapes. 

Ideal for grilled meats, cold cuts such as “Salame Milano” and semi-mature cheeses.

About this company

The history of the Poderi di San Pietro begins in 1998 in the hills of San Colombano al Lambro when, having bought about 65 hectares of vineyards, the company went to build the foundation for what would eventually become the most technological and modern cellar of the territory, known since the first decades of 1500 for the cultivation of vines. In particular it was undertaken a process of modernization, which took place through shrewd investments. After 3 years of work from its foundation, through a long work of recovery and restoration of the agrarian structure of the former consortium of San Colombano, this winery is in fact equipped with modern tanks of steel, with a nitrogen generator able to ensure the wine protection from oxygen and a modern bottling line. At the same time it was carried out a careful work of recovery and rationalization of the vineyards, in order to ensure a production of high quality. The philosophy of the current owners of the company, is to offer a high quality wine, able to express fully the vocational characteristics of the area to their maximum level. There are about five thousand hectoliters of wine produced every year in Poderi di San Pietro, using only the grapes – quality assurance – grown in vineyards that stretch of about 60 hectares in the territories of San Colombano and the neighboring municipalities of Graffignana and Miradolo Terme All vineyards are included in the wine region of “San Colombano” D.O.C. and I.G.T. “Collina del Milanese” (Hills of Milan), in which are grown: – The red grapes Croatina, Barbera, Uva rara, Merlot, Cabernet and Pinot Noir; – The white varieties Chardonnay, Trebbiano, Cortese, Malvasia and Pinot Grigio. For storing and refining are available 70 tanks of thermo-controlled steel. For the finest wines – the reserves, but also the “Rosso di Valbissera”- the aging is provided by French oak barrels and lasts from six months to two years. The local for the refinement is situated in an underground facility, to facilitate the control of temperature and humidity. Usually it hosts around 120 barrels. The Wine of Milan is born in the cellar of Poderi di San Pietro: the grapes are subjected to strict quality control of raw material and treated to ensure the maintenance of all their organoleptic and aromatic properties. The company uses the latest technology to ensure a product of excellence, combining innovation with tradition. The quality of the grapes is guaranteed from the vineyards where the grapes are picked by hand, to get to the cellar with the whole bunch and even at a temperature as low as possible. For transportation to the cellar are used refrigerated containers, which keep the grapes cool, thus preventing the start of the alcoholic fermentation process and limiting oxidation. The selection process then goes to another milestone: once the grapes arrive in the company, the fruits are unloaded onto conveyor belts and subjected to a thorough check to eliminate any bunches damaged during the transport phase as well as any leaves or buds. Only the best product can pass to the subsequent processing stages.
