Description

Varietal: 100% Moschofilero

Type: Dry White Wine

Vinification: Bosinakis Mantineia goes through a 6-hour extraction process at low temperatures in order to get as many characteristics out of the Moschofilero product as possible. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tank at 13-15ºC. It is let to age in the tanks for a very short period of time in order to maintain the  flavors, and then filtered before bottling.

Tasting Notes:  A brilliant white wine that is pale straw in color with a grayish tint. This Moschofilero has a citrus and floral sent to it. On the palate it is a dry white wine full of fruity and citrus flavors. It is very crisp and refreshing in flavor, and has a little bubbly note to it as well. It is a great wine to drink on it’s own, or with some nice light appetizers.

About this company

Bosinakis winery, has a strong family tradition in winemaking and a strong passion for quality wine. The family got involved in the wine industry forty years ago, when Fotis Bosinakis and his wife Christina, took over the wine distribution network from their parents after falling in love with the world of wines. In 1992 the couple built their own winery at Steno, a small village in the heart of Mantinia, home of the Moschofilero grape. Bosinakis family starts approaching winemaking with a singular goal… to let grapes tell their story. At the villages of Steno, Lithovounia and Agiorgitika Arkadias, where the microclimate favors the grapes more than any other area in Mantinia, the family cultivates Moschofilero in low yield vines, concentrating flavours and ensuring more complexity. Years of first-hand knowledge about how to handle this grape has been invaluable to the children of the family, Sotiris, Katerina and Konstantinos Bosinakis, who they actively participated in the company from the very start. Armed with decades of knowledge and Moschofilero’s great potential, the three siblings bottled for the very first time their PDO Bosinakis Mantinia in 2009. Bosinakis winery, is now run by Sotiris, Katerina and Konstantinos Bosinakis who focus and concentrate on their knowledge of the grape of Moschofilero and produce only two labels of it. In 2015 they launched their first extended maceration Moschofilero, a Provence-style rosé! The grapes for ‘Ieria’ were in contact with the skins and seeds for 24 hours vs 8-12 hours for the Mantinia. Specializing in small lots of single vineyard wines, they’ve quietly earned a reputation for quality, passion in winemaking, and an easy-going approach. They work with trusted growers (about 10ha in total) and keep low yield per acre (approximately from 800 to 1.100 kilos per acre), which traditionally secure better quality, while the family is always present throughout the whole cultivation and harvest process in order to guarantee the implementation of the strict quality standards, that the winery itself has set. The production is 50,000 bottles of their PDO Mantinia and 10,000 bottles of the Ieria rosé PGI. The unique microclimate of Mantinia and over 30 years of experience has led the family to create products that contribute to the PDO zone of Mantinia. They are also among the first to experiment with the aging potential of Moschofilero. Complexity, without sacrificing elegance, is what they are striving for!
