Ana Lopez (Founder and CEO of Raicilla La Reina®) is the third generation of her family born in Atenguillo, a mountainous town that is one of the main producers of Racillia, the agave drink mostly made with wild agave in the Sierra Madre of Jalisco. Surrounded by the “pueblos magicos” of Mascota and San Sebastian and situated between the major cities of Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta, this rural town has generations of families dedicated to the production of Raicilla. Similar to the town of Tequila in the 1960s, Atenguillo still holds its traditional ways of producing raicilla and celebrating the 400-year old drink with various festivities year-round. The road to production of Raicilla La Reina has been Ana´s dream. In 2011, Ana started to promote the “Ruta de la Raicilla” , a tourism campaign to bring more visitors to the Tabernas, small distilleries where Raicilla is produced. In 2019 the Declaration of Origin for Raicilla was approved by the Consejo Mexicano Promotor de la Raicilla (The Trade Association of Raicilla) and the governor of Jalisco state, with a public commitment to support the producers. Ana delivered the CMPR speech that day. This important moment, launched Ana , her husband Juan Pablo and her partner Julio Topete (master distiller), to produce and brand the high-end product with the name La Reina.
