Looking for Exclusive Distributors for Alta Gama Rum - Port Mourant, Enmore and Uitvlugt

Alta Gama Rum is based on honesty, information and education within the rum category.

The first series of Alta Gama Rum focus on the addition of sugar in rums. With four Guyana rum bottlings we offer a range of different sugar levels. The four editions contain all the same rum blend, where only the sugar content varies. We can proudly say that we are one for the first rum brands ever to declare the sugar content on the label of the bottles. Alta Gama Rum is created from an honest and transparent point of view.

Alta Gama Rum is suitable for most rum drinkers, whether you prefer dry or sweet rums. The purpose of Alta Gama Rum SERIES NO. 1 is to show what sugar addition can do to a quality rum, and therefore you can find Alta Gama Rum SERIES NO. 1 with and without added sugar. The four different rums in the Alta Gama Rum SERIES NO. 1 contains 0, 15, 25 and 35 grams of cane sugar per liter rum. If you prefer the sweet type of rum, go for the one with 25 or 35 grams of sugar. If you like your rum a bit more dry, you should try our versions with 0 or 15 grams of sugar added. It’s an incredibly good experience to taste all the different editions up against each other, as this gives a good understanding of what the dose of sugar does to a rum.

Alta Gama Awards - Gold & Bronze

In October 2018, Alta Gama Rum participated in the ”8. German Rum Festival ”in Berlin. 15 judges from all over the world were to blindetaste 170 rum in different categories to find the very best rums on the market. In the ”Category 9-14 YO” Alta Gama won two prices. Brut Nature won the Gold medal and Sec the Bronze.

Alta Gama - Sugar

Some rum producers add sugar to their rums to highlight some flavors in the rum. Others add sugar to hide flavors or critical errors in the distillate. This is the essence of the sugar addiction problem - in some cases the sugar addiction is used in a well-meaning cause and in other cases it is used as smoke and mirrors. At Alta Gama Rum, we are completely open about the addition of sugar to our different rums. Our base blend holds no added sugar and is in itself superbly balanced, with a beautifully integrated alcohol and great taste - an extremely well-composed rum blend. With this blend we demonstrate the basic quality of our rum, and additionally offer versions with a gradually higher sweetness. We do not hide a badly produced product with sugar, we just support an already tasty blend with different sugar levels.

We offer four different versions of Alta Gama Rum, where the added sugar from bottle to bottle plays a bigger and bigger role. We don’t think it’s bad to add sugar to rum, although it is often being criticized by spirits purists. We do not think it’s a problem if you’re honest about the addition - especially in our case when you can taste the starting point of the rum without sugar added, as in the case of Alta Gama Rum Brut Nature.

Sugar addiction is used in many other categories in the industry of alcohol. Both within the production of cognac and champagne, which are considered by many to the finest in the market, additives such as sugar is common. Why is the use of sugar addiction inside the rum category a taboo? The cane sugar is inseparable with rum, as rum are made of sugar cane. We believe that the addition of sugar in rum makes more sense than in any other alcoholic category.

But why is the addition of sugar in rum considered a big no-no? In the production of the sparkling wine champagne, you add sugar to some of the world’s most expensive and most prestigious wines. You even show the amount of added sugar, called ”dosage”, in the label. The dose is found on the champagne labels, and there are even several dosage terms that divide the sugar levels. It makes sense to inform the consumer about the level of sweetness on the label, and for the same reason, it is also something that we do at Alta Gama Rum. We use the same terms as in the Champagne category – these terms are shown below:

Brut Nature   (0 grams of sugar)

Extra Brut      (0-6 grams of sugar)

Brut               (Under 12 grams of sugar)

Extra Sec       (12 grams - 17 grams of sugar)

Sec                (17 grams - 32 grams of sugar)

Demi Sec       (32-50 grams of sugar)

Doux              (more than 50 grams of sugar)

It is perfectly natural for us to place the sugar content on the label, as it is an incredibly large part of the taste experience. It allows consumers to navigate between our products and helps them find the right rum. In all versions of Alta Gama Rum you will find the dosage mark on the label as well as the exact sugar content in grams per gram. liter rum. We are very proud to be able to do this as one of the first rum bottlers ever.

Alta Gama - Heritage - Guyana

The tradition of rum production in Guyana goes a long way back, and Guyana is known for producing some of the world’s best rums. For more than 300 years, rums have been produced in Guyana, and the Diamond Distillery can show a great collection of old and unique rum stills, as a large part of the country’s unique rum heritage. This heritage has enabled the distillery to offer a wide range of rums of the highest quality.  Quality of rum that covers different aged rums, styles and taste variations - a wide range of rums, also shown in Alta Gama Rum. Alta Gama Rum Range No. 1 consists of rums from the three old classic stills, Enmore Still, Port Mourant Still and Uitvlugt Still.

Enmore Still is a Wooden Continuous Coffey Still, and is today the last fully functional example of its kind. Enmore Still is identical to the very first continuous still, designed and patented by Aeneas Coffey in 1832. The device is the original and last remaining still from the Enmore Sugar Estate, founded nearly 200 years ago, by Edward Henry Porter. Since 1880, the Enmore Still has been producing a medium-bodied rum with a mild, fruit and licorice-like profile, and the unique taste of the rum can in part be credited the wooden sides found on the tall still.

Port Mourant Still is a Double Wooden Pot Still which originates from the plantation of the same name, founded in 1732. The device has previously been installed at the Uitvlugt Estate, but was moved to Diamond Distillery in 2000, where it can be found today. The unique copper-necked pot is appreciated by rum experts, as a very heavy and aromatic, and not least flavorful rum. The old Green Heartwood, which forms the framework for the pots, plays a key role in the development of the distinctive flavor characteristics that characterize rums from the Port Mourant Still. The element Port Mourant rum is vital in Alta Gama Rum and contributes to creating a taste profile with a wide spectrum of flavors.

In Alta Gama Rum, we also find rums from the original Continuous Metal Savalle Still, which is called Uitvlugt Still. The device is inherited from Uitvlught Estate dating back to the 18th century. The rum produced by this still is characterized by having a sweet cane sugar nose, combined with a dry and medium-bodied flavor profile
