Fainting Goat Spirits, which makes gin and vodka, was recently named “North Carolina Distillery of the Year” by the New York International Spirits Competition. The distillery’s gin won a gold medal in the competition, which had 600 entries for more than 50 categories. It's gin also recently won a gold medal at the San Francisco International Spirits Competition.

The distillery's vodka, Tiny Cat, also won a Gold Medal in the Denver International Spirits Competition, and silver in the New York competition.

Fainting Goat Spirits is based at 115 W. Lewis St. in downtown Greensboro. The distillery’s parent company is Greensboro Distilling.

The distillery’s sales “have outmatched our projections by far,” he said.

Norman didn’t have a number of how much the company has garnered in sales since the launch.

“We are also looking to expand to South Carolina in the next few months,” he said, adding “we’re looking, honestly, to be in every county in North Carolina."

Norman said the “brunch bill,” which seeks to allow alcohol sales on Sunday mornings, would also remove some restrictions for distilleries and would allow Fainting Goat Spirits to grow further.

If passed, the bill would allow distilleries to sell more bottles to visitors touring their facilities and allow distilleries to get permits to offer free tastings at special events such as street festivals. The North Carolina Senate recently passed the bill; it now goes to the House.
