MOUNT PLEASANT — Southern Grace Distilleries — Cabarrus County’s only legal distillery — has earned another honor, with their latest product, Sun Dog Pink Lemonade. Their lemonade earned an individual award and was named Spirited Lemonade of the Year at the recently held Berlin International Spirits Competition.

Southern Grace Distilleries had already earned two gold medals for their Sun Dog 130 product at a past competition.

“We couldn't be more proud of the success of Sun Dog Pink Lemonade and this award was such a wonderful surprise,” said Leanne Powell, president of Southern Grace Distilleries.

The company is already working on its next product.

Southern Grace Distilleries announced a new product that will be available in North Carolina ABC stores in a few weeks. It is a corn whiskey honoring the military, called Zero Dark 130.

Among the people honored on the label are the late Col Hector H. Henry II, a former Concord city councilman and veteran of every American conflict from Vietnam through Afghanistan. It also honors the late Spec. Christopher Barton of Harrisburg who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010. Southern Grace Distilleries will make a contribution for every bottle sold to the NC USO.

The contribution will be among others that Southern Grace has offered.

For their Sun Dog 130 product they contribute to animal shelters, like Kreitzer's Puppy Corral of Concord and for Sun Dog Pink Lemonade are making contribution for every bottle sold with donations going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

“We take an active role in our community and we have made a commitment to make a charitable contribution for every bottle we sell,” Powell said. “We pride ourselves on making a high-quality product and we love that our customers partner with us to support these worthy causes with every bottle they buy.”

Cabarrus County's Southern Grace Distilleries recently celebrated two years of being on shelves in North Carolina ABC stores. Southern Grace Distilleries began in Concord in 2014 and moved to Mount Pleasant to the recently redeveloped former Cabarrus Correctional facility site in September 2016.
