Supermercados Disco del Uruguay began its commercial activities in 1960, with a 100% integration of Uruguayan capital, inaugurating its first local (now Disc 1) in the heart of Pocitos, by then the most densely populated area of ​​the city of Montevideo. This date, in addition to the importance it has for the company, marks the beginning for all the Uruguayans of the supermarket era. The size of the establishment, the quantity of products under the same roof, the self-service and, above all, the lowest prices of the square, stood out at that time as the main characteristics of the new commercial phenomenon. It tells the story, innumerable anecdotes lived in the local, regarding the freedom of own choice that had the people.
