Description
Barrel fermented and aged 12 months in New French oak.
Powerful, volume and elegance
Several vineyards (Gravel pit, Txell and Sorts Vell) fill the mountain
scene, offering us a plot mosaic drawing. Various orientations and altitudes
grant a potential to achieve an optimal ripening on the grapes always
maintaining a relevant freshness.
Cold skin macerations guarantee its fruity balance. One year ageing in
tonneau of 4000L (Grenache) and in new French oak barrels from
various cooperies (Radoux, Dargaud&Jaegle, Saury...) gives a long
ageing potential to this wine with an elegant profile to be enjoyed from
its bottling.
Mountain Viticulture located at an altitude between 700 and 800
metres, nestling at the foothills of the Serra de la Llena, natural border
within Priorat region and Serra del Montsant, an area in contrast
between Mediterranean and Continental climate, with scarce rain
average and always soft winds that guarantee healthy conditions on the
vineyards. Soil structure predominates with great water retention, rich in
gravels and a marly texture optimum for quality viticulture. The elevation
of our vineyards and the temperature contrast in Garrigues region
impacts on the grape skin thickness, encouraging the concentration of
anthocyanins and tannins whilst enhancing acidity and freshness.

About this company
In the setting of Catalan wine production, one of the rare examples of historic enclaves is Castell del Remei, which got its winemaking business under way in 1780 in Penelles (Lleida) with the aim of making only crianza or aged wines. The outstanding geo- climatic conditions of the property and the design of the installations set Castell del Remei apart as the first Catalan winery conceived in the model of the greatly-admired Bordeaux châteaux. The winemaking business of Castell del Remei was registered in 1780, when the preparation of wine in the old mill is determined. The biggest step towards winemaking on this estate was nevertheless made by Ignasi Girona i Vilanova, who decided to develop its wine production around the late 19th century, given his interest in the product and the great demand at that time because of the phylloxera blight which was ravaging vineyards in France and other European countries.
