It all began in the 19th century when a young viticulturist from France named Emile Bouchon arrived in Chile. Many years later, now deeply rooted in the Maule Valley, Julio Bouchon and his children carry on the family tradition of creating distinctive, terroir-driven wines. Las Mercedes The Las Mercedes project belongs to the 4th generation of the Bouchon family, born from the desire to capture a little bit of who we are in each bottle of wine that carries our label. Our family has been producing wine for more than 120 years and now our turn has come. The philosophy behind Las Mercedes is to dare to make wines with absolute freedom – to create the kind of wine we would like to drink ourselves, to share with our friends and, eventually, with the rest of the world. We only have one rule: not to forget the Maule Valley, which is where all Bouchon wines are made. The name we chose is a fond tribute to the adventurous spirit of the first winemakers to work this valley. It all began in the 17th century with the “Mercedes” or grants of land bestowed by the Spanish Crown on hardworking entrepreneurs who used them to plant the first vines up and down the Maule Valley and harvest the first grapes in what would become a time-honored tradition of the region. With our Las Mercedes collection we aspire to revive the courage of those pioneers of Maule, their strong connection to the earth and their honest wines as we gamble on our own expressive wines designed to highlight the fruit itself and its terroir. Cheers!
