Chateau Clarettes is a small, high-quality wine estate. It was bought by a group of entrepreneurs from northern Europe in 2010. Since the takeover, the owners have been very active in the development of the estate, with the aim of creating a luxurious place to live and a vineyard carrying wines of the highest quality.
Situated in a historic area with perfect surroundings for wine production the vineyard has been producing wines here since the 1920´s. Château Clarettes produces about 75,000 bottles of wine every year of red, white and rosé. During the last few years we have heavily invested in developing the vineyard and a completely new wine producing facility was inaugurated at the end of May 2016. Meticulous soil preparation, together with plant protection are aiding us to develop and improve the cultivation of wines in ways that are environmentally friendly. For example, the year starts by having hundreds of sheep eat the grass off the fields instead of using herbicides and other toxic chemicals. Our aim is to produce well-balanced quality wines. Harvesting is performed exclusively from 4 am to 8 am to preserve flavours and to limit the grape juice oxidation, which is one of the requirements for the wines to develop at their best and achieve the highest possible quality.
The vineyard stretches among surroundings plains and hills for 13 Hectares, which also includes the 600 sq.m. Château and its big garden. Today the winery is currently owned by a group of Scandinavian businesspeople, investors who are eager to develop the vineyard into one of the best known in the whole of Provence. The volume of the production of wines are divided into 60% Rose wines, 25% red wines and 15% white wines. Grapes for the red wines are mainly Mourvedre, Carignan, Syrah and Merlot, for the rose wines Mourvedre and Cinsault and for the white wines mainly Rolle, Clairette and Chardonnay. Six different AOP wines are being produced which have two labels per rose, red and white namely Chateau Clarettes and Chateau Clarettes Grande Cuvee. In addition to two Vins de Cepage (one grape only) are produced, the Merlot and the Chardonnay distributed under the brand name Les Clarettes. Every year Château Clarettes participate in different competitions to evaluate the quality of wines produced on the vineyard. So far, our wines have received numerous awards including gold, silver and bronze medals.
