Description

"Sagrantino di Montefalco" DOCG, the special red wine of the Montefalco area, made of 100% Sagrantino grapes.

The harvest period is at the beginning of October and the grapes are hand -picked, according to strict grading board selection. Fermentation and maceration takes place at controlled temperatures between 28°-30° and takes about two weeks. The maturation period is 30 months, 12-18 months in barrels for the aging process and then a minimum of 6 months in the bottle.  Sagrantino is 14% alcohol by volume making it a very full-bodied wine.

One of its most important characteristics is its aging potential, more than 15 years, depending on the vintage. Its organoleptic characteristics are also very special; the color is a rich ruby red with purplish hues and a rim of garnet. The more it is aged, the more rich and complex the bouquet.

You can taste a hint of ripe red fruit, mature black-fruit, blackberry, cherry and black currant with spicy nuances of cocoa, vanilla, liquorice and cinnamon fragrances.  There can be medium-bodied, nice notes, warm and austere, with a perfect harmony between the coffee and tobacco nuances. It is slightly tannic. We suggest that Sagrantino be served with pasta dishes; it is a nice compliment to intense flavored tomato sauces or to roasted and grilled meats. It is also excellent if served with spicy chicken, beef, lamb, game meats and mature cheeses.

About this company

Some more info about Goretti wineries: Allow me to introduce to you both of our wineries located in Perugia and Montefalco. Our wineries are family-run and produce exceptional wine each year. Our award winning vineyards yield white, red and rosé wines. We also produce sparkling wines, Vinsanto, three types of grappa, 20 year old Brandy, extra virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar and honey. The Goretti vineyards are located in the heart of Italy, Umbria region, just outside the city of Perugia. This hilly region is known for its rich, flavorful and full-bodied white, red, and rosè wines. We take pride in our family’s antique tradition of wine making, but today we also employ sophisticated modern techniques to produce our wines. Umbria is a region of great historical significance to central Italy because of the influences from both the Etruscan and Roman peoples. There is a 14th century tower located on our winery’s property, which, in addition to our wine products, is a fascinating attraction. Our vineyards are located in the heart of an area classified as "D.O.C. Colli Perugini", as well as in an area classified as “Montefalco D.O.C.G.”, where the celebrated Sagrantino di Montefalco wines are produced. The Goretti cellars have been handed down from father to son for four generations, making us a family-owned and -operated producer of top-quality wines. Our expert oenologists, Vittorio Fiore and Barbara Tamburini, are involved in every stage of the wine-making process, from grape selection to bottling, the culmination of a year’s worth of hard work. Today, we have areas for reception in our XII century tower, called “the Goretti’s Tower” (our property and emblem of the company; seen on all of our wine labels), and the tower has many tasting rooms and a projection room. We believe we can best meet the needs of your customers, by virtue of the excellent position of our company, located in the immediate vicinity of the city of Perugia (only ten minutes), the beautiful and mystic Assisi (about twenty minutes) and many other places of great historical and geographic significance to our beautiful region. It has won numerous awards at national and international wine tasting events. This is a wine for robust and hard to please palates. It is dark red in color and has a taste that is typical of Italian wines. It is dry and full-bodied. "Il Moggio" is made using the most perfect and ripe Grechetto grapes which are softly pressed. The pure must ferments at a controlled temperature in new barrels, where it remains for six months. After decanting, the wine is bottled. This wine has a full, straw-yellow color and a deep, penetrating and spiced fragrance. Its taste is velvety and persistent.
