Description
ACES Wine: A Poker Story Wine and poker: the two passions that set ACES' Holger Clausen's heart ablaze. If you live for sipping liquid bliss or raking in a fat pot, you'll understand the man. Holger's wine infatuation first blossoms 25 years ago. As a teen living in Summerland, British Columbia - juicy centre of the fruit-filled Okanagan Valley - he meets vineyard owners and winemakers at his folks' dinner parties. One evening, a guest brings an '82 Sumac Ridge Gewürztraminer and describes its origins. Holger, 14, is enthralled. After the guests leave, Holger challenges his dad to a chess game, proposing the bottle be the prize. He wins it. Today, Holger's massive wine collection reflects his full-blown devotion to the grape, and the unopened Gewürz - now undrinkable - sits front and centre. Located in southern British Columbia, Canada - the Okanagan Valley is one of the warmest regions in all of Canada. A new, winning white. Pinot Gris lightly kissed with Gewurztraminer. Consummates a chicken, fish, or shellfish dish — but is lip-smackingly good all on its own. Don't be surprised when this off-dry original becomes your summer standby sipper.Brand Distribution Graph

About this company
Access to smaller estate wines from British Columbia has always been a challenge for Ontario wine enthusiasts. But not anymore. Recently, Alex Pyne and Jamie Crain founded in Terroir Wine + Spirits in Toronto to import hard-to-find, small yield, premium B.C. wines to Ontario. And last month, they conducted a special portfolio tasting for members of the Wine Writers’ Circle of Canada. Terroir’s list of producers is lengthy and deep. They represent 35 British Columbia wineries as well as a handful of California, Oregon and Washington producers. Of the 40 B.C. wines brought in for this tasting, most were from the Okanagan Valley, several hailed from the Fraser Valley and one came from the Saanich Peninsula at the southeastern-most tip of Vancouver Island. Most have never appeared in Ontario liquor stores because of our antiquated interprovincial trade barriers, although some are from well-established producers. In fact, some of the newer wineries have never shipped out of province. The portfolio includes some superb pinot noir and chardonnay from Meyer Family Vineyards, richly concentrated reds from Cassini Cellars including a superb Syrah, and tremendous bubblies from Summerhill Pyramid Winery. And all Terroir’s wines can be purchased for continuous stocking by private order while supplies last.
