Can you make great Oregon wines from a thousand miles away? That’s the question being asked by Michael Claypool, an advertising guru living within Coppertone squirting distance of Venice Beach. 

Based on the three wines I just tried, I’d say the answer is a resounding “yes.” 

Claypool used to run Clay Pigeon Winery out of the backroom of Cyril’s, the restaurant and wine bar he co-owned with Sasha Davies. For five years, they were Portland’s ultimate wine and cheese power couple.
