William Grant debuts ‘accessible’ gin Verano

Scottish spirits group William Grant & Sons have grown its gin portfolio with the launch of flavoured brand Verano, which is made with Spanish fruits.

The Verano Gin range is available in two variants: Verano Watermelon and Verano Lemon.

Made at William Grant & Sons’ Girvan grain plant in Scotland, the “accessible” premium brand is inspired by the “relaxed lifestyle and colourful vibrancy of Spain”.

Verano Watermelon is described as having a “sweet and refreshing flavour” while the lemon variant is a blend of Spanish lemons infused with extra lemon peel for a “zesty citrus flavour”.

It is the second gin from William Grant & Sons, which also produces Hendrick’s. The brand sailed past the million-case mark for the first time in 2017 and recently unveiled a £13 million (US$17m) distillery expansion to create The Hendrick’s Gin Palace.

The Verano liquid was created by Kayleigh Johnson, part of the team based at Girvan.

Ifan Jenkins, UK marketing director at William Grant & Sons, said: “We are delighted to be launching the brand new Verano Gin range this summer.

“Through Verano, we wanted to create a premium yet accessible gin which introduces more vibrancy, informality, and sociability into gin.

“We’ve been inspired by Spain and its relaxed lifestyle, colourful vibrancy and delicious fresh fruits, and are bringing this into gin.”

Created to be shared in jugs with friends for “easy entertaining”, Verano Watermelon can be served with lemonade and Verano Lemon can be mixed with Appletiser. Both flavours are also recommended with tonic.

The new gins are available across all 800 Stonegate venues in the UK, including Slug & Lettuce and Walkabout, from 1 May. The range will launch in UK supermarket Asda on 7 June with an RRP of £23 (US$30).
