Kavalan launches limited edition 'Artist Series'

Combine rare whiskey with fine arts

26/11/2020

TAIPEI - Kavalan, the pioneering force behind Taiwan's whiskey, has launched its "Kavalan Artists Series," a new range of expressions that seek to highlight the fine art of whiskey.

The first edition features four bottles in collaboration with Master Artist Paul Chiang, who draws creative energy from his hometown, and whose work has been selected to interpret the classical music and natural beauty of Taiwan.

Single cask and strong cask whiskeys - Puncheon, Virgin Oak, French Wine Cask and Peated Malt - are inspired by four elements,  Ocean, Air, Sunlight and Mother Earth , each of them playing an essential role in the creation of Kavalan whiskey. The distillery is launching a total of 198 collector's sets, with 4 bottles of 700ml. In addition, each of the sets includes a unique and numbered and signed edition of one of the two silkscreen prints made by  Paul Chiang and titled "Pisilian" or "Mountain Range of Taiwan ". Meanwhile, a total of 4,000 individual bottles will be launched, bottled for an individual purchase of 1,000ml.

Peated Malt is Kavalan's second Shave, Toast and Rechar (STR) whiskey, following the winner of the WWA 'World's Best Single Malt' award, * Solist Vinho Barrique.

Paul Chiang has received international acclaim in Europe, the United States and Taiwan, integrating an uncompromising search for the 'ideal' that has attracted the attention of the Kavalan family.

Kavalan CEO YT Lee indicated that each of the paintings was a true labor of love.

"Art, like whiskey, has the power to provide deep emotions. But it takes decades of hard work and commitment to be a master of creation," explained Lee.

"Take 'Puncheon', which recreates the sea, the sky and the stars. Paul has painted this work after returning to Taiwan after 30, settling on the coast of Taitung. You can feel the euphoria of the moment and the beauty of the rediscovery." .

"We wanted to bring together great art and our less common whiskey for connoisseurs as an expression of the culmination of the best art. It is an honor to collaborate with Paul on the inaugural edition."
