BenRiach Teases 21-year-Old Temporis Release

Speyside distillery BenRiach has unveiled its latest core range whisky – a peated 21-year-old single malt aged in four different casks.

20/04/2018

BenRiach Temporis was revealed at an event in London last night (18 April) and was presented alongside the distillery’s core range of spirits.

Temporis is made with peated malt and aged for 21 years in virgin oak, ex-Bourbon, ex-Pedro Ximénez and ex-oloroso Sherry casks.

BenRiach brand ambassador, Matt Chambers, said: “Whiskies aged with four casks can easily become a bit muddy, but I think in this all of the elements really shine through. BenRiach is often referred to as ‘the lab’ and I think this whisky really shows that off.”

On the nose, Temporis has notes of “pear and toasted spices fused with honeyed peat”. Meanwhile, the palate has “smooth, creamy peat” flavours, with “roasted orchard fruits, tropical pineapple and cinnamon” and a long, smoky finish.

Chambers added: “The distillery has gone through a few different owners over the years and they’ve kept up these traditions of making peated whisky.

“We are now benefiting from that because there are casks going back to the ’70s and that means we can release these old peated whiskies – and virtually nobody else can release smoky, old whisky from Speyside.”

Bottled at 46% abv, Temporis will be available at specialist retailers worldwide soon, but further details of its release and design are currently being kept under wraps by the distillery.

Upon its release, Temporis will join the distillery’s core range, which includes a non-peated 10-year-old expression, the peated Curiositas whisky and a 21-year-old single malt whisky matured in ex-Bourbon, virgin oak, Pedro Ximénez and red wine casks.

BenRiach is currently owned by Brown-Forman, which acquired The BenRiach Distillery Company and its three Scotch whisky brands for £261m in 2016.
