The beer called ‘NewBrew’ is a limited edition American Pale Ale made using the recycled water known as ‘Newater’, Singapore’s own brand of recycled water. The beer was created by the national water agency and local microbrewery Brewerkz to commemorate the 10thanniversary of the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), reported Straits Times.

The result, according to SIWW, is a demonstration of how Singapore’s recycled water is within international standards of safe drinking water.

“We are happy to partner Brewers to develop a special, one-off brew that we can all safely toast. We look forward to another decade of excellence at SIWW,” said SIWW managing director Bernard Tan.

Unfortunately, the creator of the beer doesn’t plan to commercially produce the beer in the near future.

Although this is a first for Singapore, the idea of using recycled water to brew beer is not new. A US beer called ‘Pure Water Brew’ was made using recycled water, and is sold in the US.
