Espiritu Liquido, or "Liquid Spirit" is the slogan for Mezcal Animas.
Our Mission is to capture the spirit of the agave plant and the land of Oaxaca, and share the liquid art of mezcal with the world.
Mezcal Animas is produced in the artisinal method of production in the town of Santiago Matatlan in Oaxaca Mexico. They have their own source of Espadin agaves and wait until the agaves reach 8 years maturity. Animas also sources their Papalometl agaves from Oaxaca, which is unique. This particular variety is typically found in Durango, and the Papalometl mezcal is different than other mezcals from Cupreata varieties sourced from Durango. Animas offers three expressions, Espadin, 100% Papalometl and a blend or Ensemble of both agaves. The blend is done in the old way of making mezcal in that the Espadin and Papalometl agaves are blended “pre-process”. That means they are cooked, crushed and fermented together, and the result is a complex mezcal with a seemingly endless depth of flavors and aromas.
Maguey Espadín
Nose: Primary aromas highlighting notes of herbs and agave. Sweet accents reminiscent of agave honey and pineapple nectar, accompanied by a smoky touch.
Mouth: The mouth has a softer presence, emphasizing notes of the agave plant. An herbal presence, round and balanced with a subtle smokiness. Medium permanence.
Espadin and Papalote
Nose: Intense presence of tropical fruit, properties typical of the Papalote, reminiscent of banana, mango, and exotic touches of jackfruit. Volatile aromas with fine mineral and graphite notes. Light notes of fermentation typical of tepache (a traditional drink made from pineapple).
Mouth: Subtle spicy entrance with green chile flavors, alluding to serrano and cherry peppers. The Espadín brings herbal notes and notes of green banana, but the tropical fruit of the Papalote dominates. A honey and caramel presence. Medium-high permanence, this mezcal is truly designed to stimulate the taste buds.
Maguey Papalote
Nose: Delicious notes of citrus blossom and yellow tropical fruits such as banana, mango, and pineapple. Notes of fresh-cut grass bring memories of vegetation and mountains. Presence of herbal notes and menthol aromas.
Mouth: Warm and friendly sensation with an orange citrus presence. Subtle notes of maple and toasted almond. Medium permanence with a delicious mint and caramel aftertaste.

About this company
Cielo Blue Craft Beverages was founded by Andrea Ptacnik in 2017. Andrea has a background in International Law. She completed law school in Mexico and obtained a Masters in comparative Law from San Diego’s own California Western School of Law. Growing up on the border and dividing her time between Mexico and the U.S., she was constantly reminded of how lucky she was to experience both cultures as fully as she did. But not everyone is so lucky, and not everyone has a chance to experience Mexican culture in the U.S.
After visiting Oaxaca she fell in love with the food and drinks of this amazing city, particularly the Mezcal. Once she learned about the people and the history of Mezcal, there was no turning back. She partnered with Mezcal Animas and decided she would take off on this new venture, and to bring this experience back to the states.
Cielo Blue Craft Beverages has been dedicated to not only importing and distributing the finest craft Mexian distilled spirits but also on educating our consumers and people in general about Mexian culture. We are a small team focused on finding artisinal mezcals and small batch spirits and bringing them to market. We currently represent two mezcal brands and two local San Diego producers of distilled spirits. We want to bring these great products to market beyond our local market.
