Berry Bros. & Rudd

Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of the Britain's oldest wine and spirit merchant, having traded from the same shop for over 310 years. Today the company also has offices in Japan and Hong Kong, two Wine Schools and an exclusive fine wine & dining venue in London's St James's. Wine Merchants with over 5000 wines for sale carefully selected by our five Masters of Wine to ensure they offer style, quality, individuality and value.

Jacots Wine Merchants

Jascots is an independent wine merchant established by Jack Scott in 1990 with the aim of delivering the best wines at the best prices with the best service. Although the company has grown significantly in the intervening years, we remain absolutely dedicated to these founding principles.

Laytons

Laytons is an independent, London based wine merchant, with extensive knowledge and experience of the wine market, offering a wide and varied range of wines that your customers will enjoy. Customer care is extremely important to us and we pride ourselves on our friendly and efficient service that we believe is second to none.

Friarwood

Friarwood has dozens of clarets on its list, including some less well-known petits châteaux – the best value for those of (relatively) modest means. The shop also makes decent efforts in the direction of Italy, the Rhône and Languedoc, and there are some New World wines in the mix too. If money’s no object, check out the Armagnac vintages on offer.

Green

Green is a small but consistently interesting list of wines, plus an excellent wine bar.

Jeroboams

The Jeroboams Story: Inspired by the traditional fromageries found all over France, Peter Rich opened the first Jeroboams shop in London’s South Kensington in 1985. This shop sold a wide variety of cheeses, each sourced from farms and cheesemakers across Europe, which were individually matured by the Affineur and brought to perfection by expert staff before reaching the customer.

While the emphasis was initially on cheese, Jeroboams also stocked a range of speciality foods including charcuterie, oils and foie gras. Most importantly, Jeroboams also stocked a wide selection of fine wines and champagnes.

The formula was a success and new shops in London’s Holland Park and Belgravia superseded the original premises. The Jeroboams Cheese Club was created allowing members to receive a selection of seasonal cheeses in peak condition each month or to send them as a gift. A mail order service was established making it possible to deliver a mouth-watering range of cheese selections, hampers, fine foods, wines and Champagnes.

Roberson Wine

Since we started, back in 1991, we've worked hard to make Roberson the best place to buy wine in the U.K. – whether that means shopping online or visiting our London store.

From the start, we knew the ingredients:

An unparalleled range of wine hand-chosen for quality and value.
A huge selection of old, rare and fine wine by the single bottle.
People with the knowledge and enthusiasm to champion great wine.

Attention to the detail of customer service, however you choose to shop with us. Today, we continue to believe in the same things and, as an independent specialist, strive to offer the best wine in the best way we can. We list hundreds of quality wines from outstanding producers all over the world. Our wines cover the whole spectrum of prices, styles and regions, but what they all have in common is value, character and substance. We don’t list big brands of no discernible merit other than a large marketing budget; we seek out producers and wines we like that speak of place and individuality, and try to persuade you to give them a try.

Uncorked

Uncorked is one of the UK’s leading small, independent wine merchants. Working here involves spending a lot of time saying no to hopeful suppliers whose wine just doesn’t make it in the quality stakes. The wines we buy from individual producers to sell to individual customers are here because we enjoy them, because they are very well crafted, and because the wine grower works in a way which we consider honest and transparent. Our size means that the whole team is involved in many of the decision-making tastings. It means we can be quick on our feet. It also means that our staff are better informed and that we can offer a more personal service.

Christies

Christie’s is a name and place that speaks of extraordinary art, unparalleled service and expertise.

Founded in 1766 by James Christie, Christie's conducted the greatest auctions of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, and today remains a popular showcase for the unique and the beautiful. Bedales

Douglas Blyde, spokesperson: 'The Cartwrights were established importers of St-Emilion’s fine wines; the Harrisons imported wine and speciality food from France’s south-west. The families were rival stallholders in Borough Market until they reconciled their differences by opening Bedales together four years ago. But Bedales isn’t just about France: our best-selling house white wine by the glass at our Spitalfields store is English and we stock a Soave made by the father of one of our employees, among many others. As well as trying to encourage diversity in what the customer takes home, we offer a fixed £8 mark-up on any bottle drunk on our premises.’

Berry Bros

Trading from the same location for more than 300 years, with a magnificent Georgian cellar, Berry Bros is historic yet keeps up with the times. Burgundy and claret lovers will drool at the hundreds of wines, but there are also decent (if smaller) selections from elsewhere in France, as well as Italy, Germany and the New World. The company’s own-label wines are top-notch. Great website too.

Cavas de Gaucho

Phil Crozier, wine buyer of Cavas de Gaucho says ‘I took the decision to make the Gaucho list exclusively Argentinian in 2000; before that there weren’t enough good ones but there’s been so much investment there, and the price-to-quality ratio is fantastic. People are much better educated now: they’ll come in and ask for Malbec and they know it goes brilliantly with steak, so I try to give them something special, like this Opalo (Mauricio Lorca ‘Opalo’ Malbec 2008/09, £20.35), which is grown in an area famous for roses and is incredibly floral and perfumed. It has no oak, and tastes like putting a bunch of malbec grapes straight into your mouth. Argentina is all about high vineyards and this torrontés (Colomé Torrontés 2010/11, £13.50) was made in Salta, which has the highest vineyards in the world. Almost none of our wines are available for retail elsewhere – I don’t want crossover with the supermarkets. We’re a very niche market, so we can put ultra-premium wines on the list and they sell.’

Nicolas

This first NICOLAS stores, specializing in wines and spirits, opened their doors in the center of Paris in 1822, one year following Napoleon's death. Providing superior quality and follow-up at a reasonable price has been our recipe for success.

As the number of our stores has grown, NICOLAS' fame has spread owing to intense advertising through both the movies (the first animated advertising cartoons in 1921) and billboards. Nectar, the character symbolizing NICOLAS, was born in 1921 by the pen of the artist Dransy. The delivery guy toured the world with 32 bottles... The great poster designers of the inter-war period signed on as well : Iribe, Loupot, Cassandre, and Brunhoff, who temporarily left behind his little brainchild, Babar the elephant, for the famous delivery guy. Later on, the creation of end -of-the-year luxury catalogues (see below) illustrated by famous painters and published from 1932 to 1973, and again beginning in 1992, helped promote the company's image. Among the illustrators : Van Dongen, Derain, Lorjou, Buffet, Chapelain, Midy, and Boisrond... All talent meant that NICOLAS could take our place in the history of advertising...
